Lumineers

Overview

Lumineers are used to improve the appearance of your teeth by covering the visible surface with a porcelain overlay.

Lumineers are applied in a single visit, and have a lifespan of 5 to 10 years, with adequate oral hygiene.

When are lumineers prescribed?

A Lumineer is prescribed for a tooth that is:

  • stained or discolored
  • damaged, worn down, broken or chipped
  • uneven, misaligned or irregularly shaped
  • umineers can also be used to fill a gap between two teeth
The patient’s experience

Your dentist will initially perform a visual exam of your teeth, gums and bone structure. Then, he will determine whether a lumineer will help you. Next, your dentist will:

  • apply a local anesthetic to prepare the affected area
  • remove a layer of enamel from the front of you teeth to make room for the lumineer
  • use 3D imaging tools to design your custom lumineers
  • clean, smooth and polish the teeth
  • install and bond the lumineer with special adhesives
  • expose the lumineer to a special light to harden the surface of your tooth
